Tate Bishop had a tough day in the saddle of this no.494 RKT Kosmic machine this past weekend as he tacked the 5th round of the WP Rotax Karting Championships. He did however show some great single lap pace in reference to his competition at the sharp end of the field and will be looking to make good on this at both the upcoming Cape Town National and in the remaining regional races.
Tates qualifying lap was by no mean shabby. He only mustered a P5 to see him start from the 3rd row in race 1, but definitely showed viable gains on those around him. As the lights went out for race 1, Tate became involved in a thrilling battle between the top 6 drivers and had to settle for 6th at the end of the race.
In race 2, although only finishing in P6 again, he did run as high at fourth for some of the race and when the checkered flag waved there he crossed the line less than 3 seconds behind the winner. Race 3 turned out to be Tate’s best drive of the day. He fought his way from P6 to take a well deserved third with less than a second covering the top 3. This was enough to secure an overall sixth on the day and some good points in the championship.
Tate now prepares for the 3rd round of the South African National Junior Max Championship at this home track in Cape Town next weekend.
